Korea is the world's top producer in memory semiconductors, but it is still in the top two or three in non-memory semiconductors. Korea has accumulated technologies and manpower needed in the non-memory semiconductor sector, and it is likely to be linked to neighboring areas such as smartphones, communication equipment, intelligent factories, intelligent cities, and autonomous vehicles by commercializing 5G for the first time in the world. In 2019, the government established a long-term plan after holding a ceremony to declare its vision to increase its share in the non-memory semiconductor sector. As the online and mobile industries based on digital technologies such as teleworking are expected to expand further after the coronavirus infection-19 incident, which spread around the world in 2020, the non-memory semiconductor industry was also seen as a major promising industry in the post-Corona era.
