AI Drive' ETRI Accelerates Industry Technology for 5G Data Transmission Optical Communications


It has developed a major technology that will solve problems of data traffic that are increasing rapidly by commercializing 5G. This technology eliminates bottlenecks by doubling the amount of data that can be transmitted at once. Amount of electricity and equipment that is used up can also be greatly reduced. To develop world's smallest optical transceiver (a product that makes light transceivers into one module that can send 200 data per second) and related technologies from mobile backhaul network and small metro network (a connection within a time unit), 100 data transmission was carried out per second. If this technology is applied, it can send 200 gigabytes per second by doubling the transmission capacity

for technology implementation. Instead of NRZ, which sends one bit at a time, it has increased its transmission capacity by adopting PAM-4 (High-Speed Modulation) method that sends two bits at a time. The PAM-4 modulation scheme, which was only used within 10km of the data center of the existing portal company, has been expanded to 80km section

Major technologies are optical transmitter integration technology that can diversify high density wavelength (DWDM) optical signals in 1550 nanometer band, and digital signal processing technology that has world-class signal quality recovery capabilities
